Co-ordinator’s Breakfast Promoting
and Marketing Play

Wednesday 6 October 2010

The EYLF and the VEYLDF recognises play as part of integrated teaching and learning approaches, a key practice principle.

Promoting and advocating the importance of play to families can be challenging, especially with many diverse cultural perceptions of what constitutes ‘learning’.

This session will explore positive and responsive ways educators can market play, along with providing opportunities to explore different cultural perceptions and values of learning.

Topics to be Covered

  • Defining ‘learning’ from diverse cultural perspectives
    and learning outcomes
  • How Educators foster learning through integrated teaching
    and learning approaches
  • Communicating with families about the importance of play in their
    child’s learning

Learning Outcomes

For participants to:

  • Identify different cultural perceptions and values of what constitutes learning for children
  • Identify and develop respectful communication strategies to market play to families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds
  • Develop strategies reflecting culturally competent, inviting and responsive play environments for children from CALD backgrounds
