Partnership Series: Collaborative Partnerships

with families and communities – The relationship between culture, language and identity

This session is a practical workshop focusing on how to implement the principles of inclusive practice as outlined under the EYLF, VEYLDF, and FSAC on a day to day level through curriculum decisions, interaction, and family centred practice. It will build on the learning in Educational Program & Practices - promoting equity and diversity and will be beneficial to all those with a sound understanding of CALD. Educators will reflect on the elements of cultural competency and its application at the individual, early childhood services and systems levels.

Topics to be covered: 

  • Inclusive curriculum for all children
  • Challenging intolerance and discrimination
  • Cultural communications, e.g. body language, use of jargon, assumptions and stereotypes
  • Building CALD family and community partnerships

 

Learning Outcomes for participants to:

  • Understand the relationship between culture, language and identity construction
  • Identify and implement pedagogical practices that reflect knowledge and understanding of diversity
  • Understand and apply family centred practice across cultures
  • Develop culturally competent curriculum
