Supporting Effective and Sensitive 
Communication with Staff and Parents

All adults appreciate open and honest communication and the opportunity to be heard. Communication can sometimes be difficult due to language barriers. Casual Bilingual Workers will develop strategies on how to overcome the barriers with staff and parents.

Topics to be covered

• Identifying and exploring the challenges to effectively communicate
• The use of different communication tools
• Appropriate discussion and communication techniques in parent interviews

Session Outcomes

• Develop strategies to identify individual needs of families
• Explore ways of communicating respectfully with staff and parents
• Identify appropriate communication techniques when participating in meetings and interviews with staff and families
