Supporting Children who are Settling
into Care

Families and children who have English as a 2nd language may find the settling process difficult and overwhelming and may require additional support. This session will explore how Casual Bilingual Workers can assist through the use of their common language to settle the children into care.
Topics to be covered
- The issues and challenges for children and families who are settling in a
new service
- The Casual Bilingual Worker’s role in assisting the child and family to settle
- The Casual Bilingual Worker’s role in supporting the staff
Session Outcomes
- Develop understanding of challenges faced by children with CALD backgrounds
- Develop strategies to assist children in settling
- Clarify Casual Bilingual Worker’s role in supporting children, families
and staff
